A tremendously gifted pianist, it is important to note that Svetlana is a Grand Prix Winner of Citta Di Senigallia International Piano Competition, Kingsville Piano Competition, William Byrd Young Artists Piano Competition and a Prize Winner of Murray Dranoff International Duo Piano Competition and Shreveport Symphony Wideman Piano Competition.
SVETLANA SMOLINA, stunningly talented and highly acclaimed world-renowned classical pianist, has performed, recorded and collaborated with many famous musicians, dozens of orchestras and in numerous recitals!
Dr. Smolina, was born in Russia and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Masters of Music, a Bachelor’s of Music and Artists Diplomas from Indiana University, Oberlin (Ohio) Conservatory, the Brussels Royal Conservatory (Belgium), and Balakirev Music College (Russia).
Subsequently Smolina performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony, New Florida Philharmonic, South Florida Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, and the New York Chamber. As a frequent guest at festivals worldwide, Dr. Smolina has performed at the Hollywood Bowl and in many foreign countries including Austria, England, Israel, Russia, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and China.
Recent recordings include Stravinsky’s Igor Stravinsky Les noces, a solo recording for the Chopin iTunes Project, a Benjamin Britten Young Apollo live recording and many broadcasts for NPR, WQXR New York, BBC, PBS, and other networks.
In the summer of 2011 Svetlana joined the iPalpiti Festival of International Laureates in Los Angeles and made her Walt Disney Concert Hall debut. Of note is that since 2011 Dr. Svetlana has been directing piano programs at the Philadelphia International Music Festival.
In 2014 Svetlana won “Live on Stage” and was chosen as their only Classical Pianist Artist for 2015-16 season. That tour took her to more than 20 states in America and being featured in an issue of Keyboard Magazine. Other collaborations include a series of concerts with Robert Davi, Dave Konig and Harry Chapin.
During 2014-15 she performed with superb Russian violinist, Vadim Repin, as part of a series of concerts at the residences of the Ambassador of Russia in Washington, D.C. and in London, UK for the Trans -Siberian Art Festival. Their recital in March 2015 in Toronto received astonishing critical acclaim.
In July 2015, they performed together in a recital at the “2015 – Russian Year in Monaco Shining Stars of Russia” concert series for Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
In the 2015-16 season Svetlana opened the season with Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional Juvenil in Lima, Peru and was chosen as the soloist for the New Year tour to China with the Dublin Philharmonic.
World presentation highlights of 2016-2017 included performances and recordings at the inauguration year/ opening of Tippet Rise Festival in Fishtail, Montana, duo recitals with Vadim Repin at Cartagena Music Festival in Teatro Colon, Bogota, performances in Bangalore, Mumbai India, and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy. Other programs included a Carnegie Hall recital, a concert at the International Women’s Day/Chinese Chamber of Commerce event in Singapore with concert plus masterclasses in that country, and a tour with South Florida Symphony and a recital in Buenos Aires, Argentina, all part of for “The Best Pianists of the 21st Century “series”.
In the Spring of 2018 Svetlana played at the opening night of the Navrasa Duende Global Carnival with the Dublin Philharmonic in Nehru Stadium, New Delhi; performed a duo recital at Basel Stadtcasino, Switzerland, made her debuts with Missouri and Eastern Connecticut symphonies, gave masterclasses/workshops and a concert tour in China as well as at the Varna International Summer Academy in Bulgaria.
Pre-COVID invitations for 2019 included a concert at VI Trans-Siberian Arts Festival, masterclass at Trans-Siberian Art Festival in Novosibirsk, Russia, for its educational program “Simply Meet the Star”, and a debut at the Lake Tahoe Festival. That year’s full schedule also included orchestra and solo debuts at the Festival in Ushuaia, Argentina along with an invitation to become their annual Artist in Residence Pianist.
In September 2020 Mrs. Smolina was appointed a Program Director at the Piano Academy at the European Academy of Fine Arts, Sofia, a Division of Irish American University.
