Computer & Cell Phone Backup

Are you making any of these common mistakes?
backup

1> Not doing a test restore quarterly and every time you do a hardware change or major software change

2> Are you backing up to the same hard drive/computer that has your accounting data on it?

3> Do you have only one local backup location off of the computer that has your accounting data on it?

4> Do you not have an offsite backup, either internet or physical storage device offsite?

5> Do you have multiple staff members or outside services monitoring your backup?

6> SQL software need special backup techniques, the normal backups don’t pick up these files

7> Email Addressbooks and Emails for all users are not backed up

8> Not all computers are backed especially new computers

9> No monthly report to management is not done confirming that backups are being monitored

The 3-2-1-2-Q backup principle for all computers, servers, workstation and cell phones

Storing backups in a single location is not enough to protect your data and recover from data loss.
A well-known rule of thumb is that a comprehensive backup plan should use the 3-2-1 backup rule (on all servers, workstations, cell phones):

  • Have 3 copies of your data
  • Save 2 backup copies at 2 different locations (other workstations and external drives with at least one in a different room is easiest)
  • Keep 1 backup offsite (Idrive is highly recommended)
  • Have 2 persons responsible for insuring the backup are done & a monthly report to a designated top management person with the status
  • Quarterly Test restore!
