Are you making any of these common mistakes?![]()
1> Not doing a test restore quarterly and every time you do a hardware change or major software change
2> Are you backing up to the same hard drive/computer that has your accounting data on it?
3> Do you have only one local backup location off of the computer that has your accounting data on it?
4> Do you not have an offsite backup, either internet or physical storage device offsite?
5> Do you have multiple staff members or outside services monitoring your backup?
6> SQL software need special backup techniques, the normal backups don’t pick up these files
7> Email Addressbooks and Emails for all users are not backed up
8> Not all computers are backed especially new computers
9> No monthly report to management is not done confirming that backups are being monitored
The 3-2-1-2-Q backup principle for all computers, servers, workstation and cell phones
Storing backups in a single location is not enough to protect your data and recover from data loss.
A well-known rule of thumb is that a comprehensive backup plan should use the 3-2-1 backup rule (on all servers, workstations, cell phones):
