About the Amber Grant
WomensNet founded the “Amber Grant” in 1998. The grant was set up with one goal in mind: to honor the memory of a very special young woman, Amber Wigdahl, who died at just 19 years old — before realizing her business dreams.
Today, WomensNet carries on that tradition, proudly giving away at least $30,000 every month in Amber Grant money. In recognition of the diversity of businesses owned by women, we’ve also expanded our grant-giving to include “Startup Grants,” “Business Category Grants,” as well as three “$25,000 Year End Grants.”
How Do I Apply For an Amber Grant?
Applying is simple. Just take a few minutes to tell us about yourself and your business dream. No long, complicated forms to fill out. Submitting one application makes you instantly eligible for all grants related to your business. We announce the grant winners by the 23rd of the following month.

WomensNet funds several women business grants throughout the year — $435,000 worth!
To be considered for all these grants, you only need to fill out one application. Yes, it’s that simple.
- Monthly Amber Grant: $10,000 winner each month
Each month, our judges review all the applications — then select 10 finalists. One of those finalists will be the monthly $10,000 Amber Grant winner. All business categories, including non-profits, are eligible for the Amber Grant each month.
The $10,000 Amber Grant winner each month qualifies for the year-end grant of $25,000.

- Monthly Startup Grant: $10,000 winner each month
Are you in the “idea phase” of your business? We have an additional grant opportunity for you: Our WomensNet Startup Grant. We define a “startup” as a business in the “idea phase,” or one that has only had minimal sales (less than $10,000). Even though startups are eligible for our monthly Amber Grants, we’ve created an additional grant especially for this underserved sector. The $10,000 Amber Grant winner each month qualifies for the year-end grant of $25,000.

- Business Category Grants: $10,000 winner each month
Every woman entrepreneur who fills out her application is eligible for the $10,000 Amber Grant (for the month in which the application is submitted). But we have an additional $10,000 Business Category grant winner every month, too.
You see, we’ve found that some business categories are under-represented in winning grant money.
So applicants who fall under these specific business categories automatically become eligible (once per year) for the monthly $10,000 Business Category Grant based on the calendar below. Your same application remains active for the Category grant until the month of your category. One of the 12 category winners are selected for a $25,000 year end grant.

As most statistics will show, women are often underrepresented in the trade services — especially as business owners. That means we’re often ignored for the contributions we make to our communities, even though we offer essential services like carpentry, welding or trucking. Being a woman business owner in the trade services helps break through the oldest glass ceiling. Challenging these traditional roles also expands women’s entrepreneurial skills and develops flexible careers that enable us to manage both work and family responsibilities.

We at WomensNet are inspired by women who are driven to use their skills to provide a good or service to benefit their community, and who want to invest their time and passions into a purpose-driven business model. We want to see more women doing what they love.
That’s why we give “Business Specific” Grants based on each month’s category — including a grant specific to women in the trades industry.
Here’s How You Become Eligible for Our January “Skilled Trade” Business Specific Grant
— As Well As All Our Additional Grants:
1. Apply for our monthly Amber Grant. By applying just once for the $10,000 monthly Amber Grant, you automatically become eligible for that month’s $10,000 Business specific grant
2. You do NOT have to apply again. Your single Amber Grant application also makes you eligible for any of our other grants, including:
- The $10,000 “Business Specific Category” Grant that we give away each month for the next 11 months.
Here are those categories and months that they are awarded:

— February: Health, Fitness & Wellness
— March: Food & Beverage
— April: Sustainability
— May: Mental & Emotional Support
— June: Business Support Services (e.g. accounting, consulting)
— July: Animal Services
— August: Hair Care & SkinCare
— September: Education & Child Care
— October: Creative Arts
— November: STEM
— December: Fashion & Interior Design
At the end of the year, we will award one of the monthly recipients an additional $25,000 grant
- The $10,000 Monthly Startup grant: We define a “startup” as a business in the “idea phase,” or one that has only had minimal sales (less than $10,000). Even though startups are eligible for all our monthly grants, we’ve created an additional grant especially for this underserved sector.

The three (3) $25,000 Year-End Grants: At the end of every year, we select 3 winners from the 36 monthly $10,000 Amber Grant, Startup, and Business Specific grant winners.
This means your business could win a total of $35,000 in grant money by submitting just one application.
